The band head stateside to try their luck once again
26/09/2011 - Adrian Larkin
Portishead are braving the US for their first tour in the country since 1998, a jaunt which saw the band taking an extended break from recording.
The 10-city run comes three years after the release of 2008's album, Third. Their only performance in the country since then was at Coachella festival in LA and Geoff Barrow explained why they'd taken some time out: "On our last tour it collapsed because of personal things, not between the band, but relationships, divorces - we hadn't stopped since Dummy."

Spotify has landed in the U.S.
Ok, Spotify hit the US. Finally? After three years of test marketing in Europe... I have been using it for about three years (right after it was launched) FOR FREE and was really happy with the free account until Spotify decided to change their rules in the beginning of May 2011 and killed the free version in such a sneaky way.
"The changes are mainly that you're able to listen to any track in the catalogue a total of 5 times with a monthly limitation on the service at 10 hours of streaming. In essence, this will keep the service free for those who want to search for new music in the future as well, but will pretty much disable the possibility to take full advantage of the service in a free way." (www.arcticstartup.com)
I was still pretty sure to get the premium account anyways, but when I launched the "new Spotify" it started to sync or suck ALL music files from my hard drive to the damn Spotify library, crashed my iTunes, Spotify and a pretty important presentation I was working on. So as you can imagine, I was not really pleased. In fact I was totally pissed off. I immediately switched to Grooveshark, also because it is more international meaning people outta Europe have the same access, users do not need fancy invites, I did not get the feeling to kill "Tom from Spotify" (Europeans know what I am talking about...) and so on.
I know Spotify will be a huge success in the US and will basically kill iTunes, all other old skool music apps and is going to be the market leader in music streaming. I wish them the best of luck and maybe, maybe I will get back to it if grooveshark does not make it's way through their legal issues. Also it would be very nice to have some international pricing for spotifiy. There is kind of a difference between 10$, 10£, or 10€.... All people who are just discovering Spotify. Enjoy!!!!

Network Awesome

http://www.networkawesome.com/
"Network Awesome is a platform for entertaining and interesting TV. We spotlight the best from the past to create something new for the future. In a sense it’s TV about TV but our wider intent is to show something about culture as a whole. This can manifest itself in a kids cartoon from 1973, an interview from 1948 or a movie from 1993 – We’re pretty open minded about what Network Awesome is and what it can be. It’s our commitment to provide you what we think is interesting and clever TV - hopefully you agree.
Because Network Awesome is an online platform, we collect all our programming from fully public sources. We claim no proprietary rights over any programming. We just collect, organize and present it to you in a nice and tidy package. Quality is our goal and only guiding light."

The Voice Project
About The Voice Project
'For over two decades war has ravaged Northern Uganda. It is Africa’s longest running conflict and it has spread to Southern Sudan and Eastern Congo. Joseph Kony’s LRA has made abducting children and forcing them to fight his chief weapon of war, even making them kill their friends and family members. Many abductees and former soldiers escape but hide in the bush, afraid to return home because of reprisals for the atrocities they were forced to commit.
The women of Northern Uganda - widows, rape survivors, and former abductees have been banding together in groups to support each other and those orphaned by the war and diseases so prevalent in the IDP (Internally Displaced Persons) camps. And they are singing songs. The lyrics let the former soldiers know that they are forgiven and that they should come home. The songs are passed by radio and word of mouth out into the bush, as far as the Sudan and DR Congo. And it’s working. Former LRA are returning and for the first time 24 years the region has a chance at real peace.
The Voice Project is an attempt to support these incredible women and the peace movement in Uganda, and an effort to see how far a voice can carry.
How it works- Artists do the cover chain episodes to spread the word (one covers another and so on)
- We put the videos up at our site
- We use money from donations, sponsors and advertisers to support programs on the ground which aid in the peace, reconciliation and rebuilding efforts.'

Jason Forrest - Raunchy
JASON FORREST The Everything | LABEL: Staatsakt | Label: Rough Trade | Release: 15.04.2011
Jason Forrest is an electronic music producer known for noisy experimental electronica and breakcore incorporating many ideas of mash-up and rock and roll. Largely produced and performed on a single computer (including live shows), his songs tend to be constructed from digital samples of found sounds and other artists' music. Until 2004 he recorded under the name Donna Summer, an allusion to disco singer Donna Summer.
In 2005 RES magazine named Forrest's "Steppin Off" video, by director Jon Watts, music video of the year. In 2006 Res magazine named Forrest's video "War Photographer", directed by Joel Trussell video of the year, and online magazine Pitchfork Media also named it in their top 5 videos of the year.[1] Both videos have won several awards at various international film and video festivals and have both been widely viewed, downloaded and acclaimed.
Forrest has released on many labels, but primarily on Köln Germany's Sonig record label. He also has releases on Irritant records (UK), Omeko (JP), MeWe le Disque (BE), Mirex (DE), Broklyn Beats (USA), and Hoss (USA).

Ticketfly
Ticketfly has an interesting origin story, the company’s co-founders sold their first startup, TicketWeb to industry leader Ticketmaster for $35 million in 2000 and then left that company in 2008 to form Ticketfly.
Seeing that Ticketmaster was missing out on a tremendous opportunity in social marketing and realizing that there was a market in catering to the small venues that didn’t feel right with having a competitor sell tickets (after Tickmaster merged with Live Nation), Ticketfly co-founders Andrew Dreskin and Dan Teree sought to provide people with a Ticketmaster alternative. “We sort of got the band back together for round two here,” Dreskin tells me." ... "It's been a while since we've heard any new music from Santigold, but Jay-Z's new lifestyle website Life + Times just posted the apocalyptic, synth-based new track "Go", which features an assist from Yeah Yeah Yeahs leader Karen O. In an interview with the website about the track, Santigold also mentions Q-Tip, who may have produced the track. Stream the song and read the interview over at Life + Times."

Against me! AND The Gaslight Anthem
I think both bands are just awesome. 'against me!... aaahhhh luv....' is very punkish and 'the gaslight anthem' more folk-punkish.
here are MakroSounds favourites.
